Richard W. Marrs, AAI, CIC - Chief Executive Officer

Dick Marrs has been active in the insurance business for more than 20 years. After a brief tenure with Allianz Insurance Company, Dick has spent his entire career in the agency/brokerage business. Prior to the formation of MM&A, Dick was employed by two area insurance agencies, rising to the status of Vice President at each, and also maintaining a status of top producer. Realizing the glaring need for a hands-on, service intensive Commercial Lines Agency, Dick, with the other agency principals, formed Marrs Maddocks & Associates Insurance Services, Inc. in 1991.

Dick is a 1979 graduate of San Diego State University; He has earned and currently holds the distinguished designations of both Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and is also a current candidate for the Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation. He is former president of the Young Independent Insurance Agents Association of San Diego, a past board member of the Independent Agents Association of San Diego and currently serves the boards of the Home of Guiding Hands and Mountain Shadows Support Group


Nancy G. Maddocks, CIC - Agency Principal

Nancy Maddocks has been active in the insurance business for more than 20 years. With a long, comprehensive background in agency management, property and casualty marketing, customer service and administration, Nancy served several California agencies before joining the other principals to form Marrs Maddocks & Associates in 1991.

She serves as the quality control/customer service liaison within the agency for our most prestigious clients. She is a graduate of California State University, Chico and holds a Certified Insurance Counselor designation. She is a former board member of the Professional Insurance Agents of San Diego, a current member of Professional Women in Insurance, a graduate of the Claremont/McKenna Agency Management Conference, a candidate for the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, and has taken numerous courses in customer service, property and casualty coverage analysis, and agency management. She has extensive experience in dealing with large, multi-national and complex insurance customers and coverage issues.


Daniel E. Marrs, CIC - President

Dan Marrs, a third generation insurance executive, has over 20 years experience in the industry. Dan began his insurance career with The Hartford in 1980. He then joined National Certified, Inc. a regional retail insurance brokerage and rose to the status of Vice President. In 1987, Dan joined TCS Insurance Services based in San Diego where he was personally responsible in establishing and maintaining a new branch office for TCS in Brea, CA. Dan, along with the other agency principals formed Marrs Maddocks & Associates in 1991. Dan is a graduate of the Hartford Commercial Lines School and the 1987 Advanced Agency Management Conference at Claremont McKenna College. Dan achieved the distinguished designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) in 1999. He is a former board member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Whittier and is a past president of the Whittier Host Lions Club.


Craig Klareich - Vice President

Craig Klareich has been employed in our San Diego office for almost nine years. His business acumen, attention to satisfying the needs of our customers, and providing the best service and value in insurance products has enabled him to earn the distinction of top producer in that office for the past six years.

Craig is a 1996 graduate of the Office of Professional Training Program for Insurance at Grossmont College. He and his wife Judy, and their two daughters, make their home in Santee, California where Craig serves as the active president for a local soccer club organization, in which his daughter participates.


D. Patrick Hurley - Vice President, Commercial Lines

Pat has been with Marrs Maddocks & Associates since the agency was founded in 1991. His Insurance Accreditations include the CIC as well as the AAI Designations. His extensive training and experience has always focused on the insurance requirements of the Business Community. A commitment to providing effective .hands-on. service is a personal and professional priority in Pat's life. Pat is a Rotarian and a member of The Chamber of Commerce. Pat, his wife Kelly, and their two daughters make their home in Carlsbad, California.



Neal J. Stehly, LUTCF - Vice President, Employee Benefits

Neal has been in the employee benefits field for over fourteen years. Neal joined Marrs Maddocks & Associates in June of 1993 to establish the employee benefits department. Neal graduated from the University of San Diego with a degree in political science. He currently is a Life Underwriters Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) and is a current candidate for the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation. Neal has also completed numerous courses related to employee benefits including all lines of insurance coverage, pension plans, COBRA administration, HIPAA administration, and Section 125 administration. Neal has extensive experience in the evaluation and implementation of all types of employee benefit plans including but not limited to, multi state risks, partial self-funded plans, cafeteria plans, pension plans, and ancillary administrative services (cobra administration, HIPPA administration etc). Neal participates in various charitable organizations and is a Rotarian.


Gwynn D. Thomas, CIC - Vice President, Commercial Lines

Gwynn Thomas has been active in the insurance business for more than 20 years. Gwynn began her career as an independent adjuster and then joined Western Insurance Associates, an independent brokerage in Pasadena, and was Account Executive for their homes for the aging property/casualty program. Gwynn moved to San Diego in late 1990 and joined Marrs Maddocks & Associates in September 1995. She is an alumni of California Polytechnic University of Pomona and holds the distinguished designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), is a candidate for the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) designation, and continues her education with CIC Graduate seminars. She is a member of San Diego Yacht Club and Chamber of Commerce. She has extensive experience with large and complex insurance risks.


E. Glenn Ables - Senior Vice President

After graduating from the University of Hartford in 1975, Glenn moved Southwest until ending up with the Hartford Insurance Group in Los Angeles in -1979. Glenn relocated to San Diego in 1981 where he began his property and casualty insurance practice with Wausau Insurance Companies. In 1985, he started and ran his own agency which merged into a larger agency in 1992, where he remained a partner until 2001, when he joined Marrs Maddocks & Associates.

Glenn is a Certified Insurance Counselor, past Board Member of the Insurance Brokers & Agents Association, and past Board Member of K.I.T., a non-profit group specializing in inclusion for disabled children.

Married 20 years with two children and a much-loved Boxer dog, Glenn has resided in Encinitas, CA since 1986, where he enjoys automobiles and World War II history.


Brian Fox - Account Executive

Brian brings an extensive business background to the insurance industry. Brian’s motivation and drive are uniquely apparent for all his customers. Whether finding his customers the best value on insurance coverage or meeting his client requirements with urgency, Brian’s responsiveness is indicative of his military training and managerial experience.

Brian is a graduate of the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research Producer School. Brian graduated from the University of California San Diego in 1993 and received his MBA from San Diego State University in 2001. Brian is a former Navy pilot and currently maintains his naval career as a Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserve.


Alissa Viggianelli - Account Executive

Alissa Viggianelli has been active in the employee benefits field for several years. Prior to joining Marrs Maddocks and Associates in 2002, Alissa worked for the large group sales division of Blue Cross of California as an Account Manager.

Alissa has extensive experience implementing and maintaining employee benefit programs. As an employee benefits account executive, Alissa strives to anticipate and respond promptly to the unique health insurance needs of her clients. She is devoted to outstanding customer service and her great attention to detail ensures client satisfaction.

Alissa is a current candidate for the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation.


Carla P. Malone - Personal Lines Sales Manager

Carla Malone has been active in the Personal Lines Insurance field since 1991. Prior to joining Marrs, Maddocks & Associates, Carla had a long and distinguished insurance career with the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Carla has extensive experience in the sales and service of personal insurance products. As the agency Personal Lines Sales Manager, Carla's focus is exceeding customer expectations with state-of-the-art customer service and product knowledge.

Carla is active in the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the Coastal Clean-up Commission and enjoys fitness and travel.
